Walkway Construction

Beautiful, practical brick walkways to connect your property's areas

Add Visual Interest

Brick walkways are a simple way to add interest to any landscape. They are classic and there's just something so satisfying about a nice pathway.

In the front yard, they add curb appeal and can pay for themselves by increasing the value of you home.

Create Practical Routes

Walkways provide a safe, tidy way of getting from the street to the house or through a muddy garden. If the walkway is in the right place, it keeps grass from being damaged from high traffic routes.

Technical Details Taken Care Of

"A perfectionist's attention to technical issues"
– Heather Frayne, Winnipeg

We build for Winnipeg soil conditions and weather. To be safe to walk on, a walkway needs proper sloping to prevent ice build-up and it needs a deep foundation to minimize movement during freeze-thaw cycles.

Beyond functionality, we consider every brick in the design and take a lot of care in the installation to get things level, evenly spaced and looking natural.

Most of the cost in a walkway installation is in the labour so it only makes sense to use high quality materials to make all that work worthwhile. We use pavers intended to last in Winnipeg's conditions, made right here in Winnipeg.

Walkway Installation FAQs

A concrete paver walkway can cost anywhere from $25 to $70 per square foot. See our walkway installation cost guide to get a pretty good idea or email us for a preliminary quote. It's quick and easy for us to do these preliminary ballpark estimates entirely by email. No need for an appointment to see your yard or anything. Just email us!

Walkways often take 1 to 2 days to install.

We can confidently say no. It is a matter of principle for us that the price we quote is the price on the invoice. Any changes to the quote will be discussed well in advance.

One thing our customers write on Google Reviews over and over again is "they billed what they quoted". Unless you decide you'd like to update project plan after the project has already started, you will be billed exactly what we quoted. That's what we agreed upon so that's what the bill will be.

Let us know what your schedule is and we might be able to make it happen! We never disrupt previously booked projects with other customers, but sometimes the weather is in our favour and we end up with some additional capacity. Email us. We'll get back to you very quickly letting you know how our schedule is looking.

After 27 years, we know how to schedule jobs. We know how long projects take. We aren't completely shocked and caught off guard when we have a rain day or two. We expect that.

Our Google Reviews consistently talk about how happy people are that we actually show up on time.

We have no formal guarantees, but working on-schedule is how we do business.

There really isn't much to do with the concrete paver walkways that we build.

- Sweep off grass clippings and fallen leaves. It is a common misconception that weeds grow up through the joints between pavers. Actually weeds settle in from the top. If those weed seeds are removed along with any other organic material, they won't be able to take root.

- Inspect joint sand. With our clay soils in Winnipeg it is inevitable that patios will move with the changing of seasons. A concrete paver surface is a flexible system that can move with these changes, but occasionally you will see fine cracks develop in the sand between the pavers. You'll want to fill those cracks. We can do this for you easily. If any cracks appear within five years of installation, just send us an email and we will happily take care of it for you as a part of our guarantee.

- If your walkway is multiple decades old, sometimes a few of the paver bricks end up cracked. This might indicate deeper problems, but in many cases it is a just matter of replacing the cracked bricks with new bricks.

- Sometimes even well-built walkways will have problems from ground movement in Winnipeg. Areas with previously disturbed soil, next to driveways or along building foundations are more likely to cause problems and sometimes require repair work within 10 years.

Earthworks Landscaping has been operating for more than 27 years and Dwayne, the owner, had already been in the industry for 15 years before that. That's a lot of experience. Not only that, but Dwayne hasn't just been managing the company from an office. To this day he's still physically a part of the actual landscaping crew on every single job. He's the foreman.

We have a 5-year guarantee on our walkway stonework. We take the warranty very seriously and routinely do small repairs on walkways we've built. You can see in some of our Google Reviews that our customers were happy with how quickly and cheerfully we responded when they had even small problems with our work. It's part of the job, especially with Winnipeg's soil. We stand behind our work.

We can build with whatever you want, but our customers usually choose concrete pavers. They are almost always a very good choice. But we can build walkways with lime stone or we can do a stepping stone style pathway using something like slate.

Crushed stone or wood mulch walkways are the cheapest. While not ideal as a main walkway that gets used multiple times per day, it may be an practical solution for a pathway through a garden or for a longer walkway that wraps around the side of your house.
