Appropriate Choice for Winnipeg's Conditions

Interlocking brick driveways like the ones we build have a big advantage over monolithic concrete slab driveways: they are built to flex.

Winnipeg's clay soil is notorious for movement as it expands and contracts through the seasons. This is why concrete slabs crack. Concrete pavers, on the other hand, form a flexible interlocking system. This is very well-suited to Winnipeg's conditions.

Built in a Matter of Days

Driveways are big projects but we can do them surprisingly quickly. Part of the reason for this is that by their nature they always allow us to use our biggest machines. We also only do one project at a time – no job switching – so once the project starts, we're there until it's complete. This means your property won't end up as a construction zone for weeks at a time, as you so often see.

Driveway Installation FAQs

Our primary supplier, Barkman Concrete, adheres to all CSA and ASTM requirements, meaning that all of their products have a minimum compressive strength of 5800 to 8000 PSI. They have a wide range of pavers intended for use in everything from residential patios to commercial parking lots and public roadways.

No. One of the most common things our customers write on Google Reviews about us is that we billed what we quoted. It is amazing how surprising this is to people. Unless you decide to change the plan mid-way through the project, you will be billed exactly what we quote.

Let us know what your schedule is and we might be able to make it happen! We never disrupt previously booked projects with other customers, but sometimes the weather is in our favour and we end up with some additional capacity. Email us and we'll get back to you very quickly.

We have no formal guarantees, but after 27 years, we know how to schedule jobs. We know how much time things take. We aren't shocked and caught off guard when we have a rain day or two. It's not uncommon for us to be ready even earlier than planned.

Our Google Reviews consistently talk about how happy people are that we actually show up on time.

It depends on the time of year and the size of the project, but we can give you a really good idea.

Spring and early summer everyone is eager to get their yards and gardens in shape so ideally you'll reach out to us in late winter or early spring.

Mid- to late-summer tend to be good opportunities to get things done on shorter notice because the spring rush is over.

If you email us, we can give you a very clear idea of how long you'll have to wait. We also have this longer article discussing how far in advance you should book a landscaping contractor for various services.

There really isn't much to do.

- Sweep off grass clippings and fallen leaves. It is a common misconception that weeds grow up through the joints between pavers, but actually weeds settle in from the top. If those weed seeds are removed along with any other organic material, they won't be able to take root.

- Inspect joint sand. With our clay soils in Winnipeg it is inevitable that driveways will move with the changing of seasons. A concrete paver surface is a flexible system that can move with these changes, but occasionally you will see fine cracks develop in the sand between the pavers. You'll want to fill those cracks. We can do this for you easily. If any cracks appear within five years of installation, just send us an email and we will happily take care of it for you as a part of our guarantee.

- If your driveway is multiple decades old, sometimes a few of your paver bricks end up cracked. This might be an indicator of deeper problems, but in many cases it is a simple matter of replacing the cracked bricks with new pavers. We offer paver repair services. It is extremely rare to see damaged pavers that are less than 20 or 30 years old.

- Sometimes even well-built driveways will experience issues from ground movement in Winnipeg. Areas with previously disturbed soil such as along building foundations are more likely to cause problems and sometimes require repair work within 10 years.

The company has been operating for more than 27 years now and Dwayne, the owner, had already been in the industry for 15 years before that. That's a lot of experience. Not only that, but Dwayne hasn't just been managing the company from an office. To this day he's still physically a part of the actual landscaping crew on every single job.

We have a 5-year guarantee on our driveway stonework. We take the warranty very seriously and routinely do small repairs on driveways we've built to honour that guarantee. You can see in some of our Google Reviews that our customers were really surprised at how we responded when they had little problems with our work. So we do stand behind our work.
